Visai nebloga knyga, ypač jeigu ruošiamasi skaityti konkretesnės tematikos moklso populiarinimo knygą。 Nors ir nėra išsiplečiama skyriuose, kurie mane domina labiau, tačiau viską atperka ne tik pačių žymiausių, bet ir kitų mažiau žinomų, tačiau mokslo istorijai svarbių žmonių paminėjimas。 Tai leidžia pasidomėti pasidomėti šių žmonių darbais。 Tai pat knyga skaitosi nesudėtingai, ypač tinka skaityti turint po 20-30 min。 laisvo laiko per dieną。

the idea of this book is good but expressing so many scientific discoveries with so little elaboration caused very little to be actually retained by the reader, in my opinion。

This encyclopedia is like a highly enhanced version of high school science classes plus some more theories and explanations that are -personally- new to me。Illustrations are elegant and I loved that subjects followed a historical timeline, for me this always adds order to my view of things。P。S: It is either authors are partial to physics or it might be just me struggling to get my head around it that I imagined it took too much space。

Really good book for learning the history and philosophies behind major ideas and advances, but still good for facts

The book was filled with facts。 It took me 2 months to finish the audio book (~15 hours)。 It includes all important stories and figures from physics and chemistry but it ignores all humanities! There was only a few pages covering mathematics, medicine, biology, computer science etc。 But still very informative。

Found this to be very informative AND straight to the point。 The graphics aided in the understanding。 I believe it would work for any high-school student interested in science。 It covers physics, biology and chemistry。

Güzel bi kitap ama konuların ve konseptlerin üzerinden hızlıca geçtiği için açıklayıcılığından ödün vermiş。 Kitabın adı bence "Bilim。zip" olmalıydı。 Güzel bi kitap ama konuların ve konseptlerin üzerinden hızlıca geçtiği için açıklayıcılığından ödün vermiş。 Kitabın adı bence "Bilim。zip" olmalıydı。 。。。more

The early pages are fascinating and it’s enjoyable to hear how science slowly became accepted。 Towards the end the concepts become deeper and at times hard to follow。 Overall, helpful and I recommend。 🧬🧫🧪

This is not my favorite of all the Big Ideas books I have read。 I would like to see them do a book just about biology/nature/animals。 This book talks a lot about physics, and I am not a math or science person, so I wasn't that interested in a lot of it。I did learn some stuff though, and that is the main reason I like reading the DK books。 I read it straight through, a few pages a day, but it would also make a good reference book for when you need help finding the answer to science questions。 The This is not my favorite of all the Big Ideas books I have read。 I would like to see them do a book just about biology/nature/animals。 This book talks a lot about physics, and I am not a math or science person, so I wasn't that interested in a lot of it。I did learn some stuff though, and that is the main reason I like reading the DK books。 I read it straight through, a few pages a day, but it would also make a good reference book for when you need help finding the answer to science questions。 There is a directory, glossary, and a handy index。I also like the timeline overviews that all these books have to introduce a new era。 I recommend this and the other Big Ideas books for anyone who wants to learn a good overview of the subject in question。 。。。more

Great variety of short text and diagrams of basic chemistry, physics, biology, and geology and the men and women who uncovered it through observation and experimentation。 The last thirty years kind of lost me (quarks and Gaia and black holes and string theory), but I loved the rest。 Suitable for a smart and curious 12 year old (or 59 year old), I would think。

Wonderful for the type of book and the complexity of the ideas。 As simply explained as can be for such a book as many of the physics theories were way off the comfort scale。 Fascinating。

Don't go into it expecting simple explanations of scientific phenomena, because you're going to be disappointed。 Look at it as a history book of scientific discoveries。 Shot explanations of what preceded that discovery and how it can to be。 Don't go into it expecting simple explanations of scientific phenomena, because you're going to be disappointed。 Look at it as a history book of scientific discoveries。 Shot explanations of what preceded that discovery and how it can to be。 。。。more

Brilliant。 Must reread and go to other sources to fully understand most concepts。

A much-needed introductory read on the developmental history of science。 Level of engagement ebbs and flows, depending on the subject matter。 Overall, a very handy book if a systematic comb-through of science is desired。 It can get really dry at places if you are not a hardcore fan of subjects like particle physics or hybridisation of molecule orbitals, in which case will power may benefit。

Akash Das

Very informative and full of science。 Everyone from teen should read it。

Really good and comprehensive but for some topics I was less familiar with I had to google/watch some videos to fully understand the concepts。 I'm not sure who it's written for (adults or kids) but I know as a child I would have been a bit lost with some of the writing。 Occasionally it needlessly used big words or long sentences, and more diagrams would have made some concepts easier to understand。 Really good and comprehensive but for some topics I was less familiar with I had to google/watch some videos to fully understand the concepts。 I'm not sure who it's written for (adults or kids) but I know as a child I would have been a bit lost with some of the writing。 Occasionally it needlessly used big words or long sentences, and more diagrams would have made some concepts easier to understand。 。。。more

Wilhelm Rontgen, German physicist that discovered X rays。 - Marie Curie, novel prize winner for chemistry and physics who was a pioneer in radioactivity。- James clerk Maxwell Scottish mathematician for formulating the theory of electromagnetic radiation。 Considered to be the second great unification in physics after Newton's theories。 Ernest Rutherford,a Kiwi physicist and the father of nuclear physics。 Discovery of the Alpha and beta radioactivity and discovery of atomic nucleus。-Albert Einstein, arguably the greatest scientist ever, developing the theory of relativity。 One of two or of modern physics。 Werner Heisenberg, German physicist and pioneer for Quantum mechanics。 Edwin Hubble, famous astronomer that played a major role in extragalactic astronomy。 Fritz zwicky for discovering the disproportionate amount of dark matter in the expanding universe and naming the explosion of large stars as supernovae。 Alan Turing a mathematician creating algorithms and machines that could do so which eventually become a computer。J。 Robert Oppenheimer the man who lead the Manhattan project, one of the biggest science projects ever and the construction of the atomic bomb。James Watson and Francis Crick two Nobel prize winning molecular biologists that proposed the double helix structure of the DNA moleculeDonald Michie,a British researcher in artificial intelligenceJohn Craig Venter an American biologist known for his work in synthetic life and putting together the human genome Stephen Hawking the British theoretical physicist know for his work in gravitational singularity theorems in the framework of general relativity and the theoretical prediction that black holes emit radiation, often called Hawking radiation。Michio kaku theoretical physicist and co founder of the string theory。Tim Burners Lee a british computer scientist known for creating the world wide web, one of the createst inventions of the 20th century。 Philio Farnsworth an inventor known for being a television pioneer。Jonas Salk was an American virologist and medical researcher who developed the world’s first successful polio vaccine。 。。。more

This book more like a science history (though without the philosophy of science), and less about the actual ideas。 You will learn about who came up with an idea, and how this idea is connected to other ideas or concepts, and not so much about the actual idea。
